Do you prefer a fps game on a 4k 60hz monitor or a 1080/1440p 144hz or more monitor. Also does 4k have a large effect in fps games and are games other than fps genre, are they good enough in 60hz?also what happens when fps crosses 60hz on a 60hz g sync monitor

Solution
144hz every day. I play on a 24inch 1080p 144hz screen myself, and my brother plays on a 55 inch 4k tv. I prefer my screen 100%. His screen seems choppy and it has like a delay. I feel disconnected from my mouse when playing on his 4k TV.
All games benefit from 144hz. Even if you only get 60fps, any time you move in game it stays sharp, crisp and responsive. Even just general web browsing and video streaming is noticeably better with a higher refresh rate. The menus open smoother, my mouse is sharp and smooth etc. I am spoiled now and will never go back to anything less than 120hz
It depends on multiple factors:
1. The budget you have set for the monitor.
2. If you are planning to do anything other than gaming.
3. If your GPU can support 4k resolution.
4. If you pay very high attention to details or no.

It all depends on the questions I asked earlier.

Games don't "need" 144hz. 144hz means that the maximum number of FPS a monitor can display is 144FPS.

But you need a good GPU in order to achieve the maximum frame rate.
