Hi All,

Looking for recommendations around 4K Gaming build with everything included except Mouse and Keyboard basically (Monitor, Webcam, Speakers needed). Basically limitless budget - UK and can happily use PCPartPicker for shops. Want your thoughts I was thinking something along the lines of:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Storage: Intel 660p Series 1.02 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB VENTUS OC Video Card
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit
Monitor: Asus ROG SWIFT PG27UQ 27.0" 3840x2160 144 Hz Monitor
Speakers: Bose Companion 2 Series III 0 nW 2.0 Channel Speakers
Custom: Logitech C920 HD Pro USB 1080p Webcam

To clarify:
  • I've opted for the 750W over 650W so that the additional 4pin CPU is populated for future use.
  • Was considering 9900K but it's not necessarily needed, but with their budget, one might think why not?
  • Was wondering if the monitor really is excessive, monitors are less a forte of mine, but i know that one is well received.
Also hoping maybe @remixislandmusic, @WildCard999 or @Phaaze88 might give their expertise?

Yea, im not the best with monitors. Tim from hardware unboxed does a lot of monitor reviews.

Here are some thoughts:

I think the 3700x is fine since the video card will definitely be the limit at 4k, but if you have unlimited budget, i really don't see why not go with the 9900k.

I like the choice of case, psu, gpu and ssd. Although you may want to opt for the 2tb 660p since you have the budget.

Would the buyer like a dual monitor setup?

Quite potentially. 4K isn't my area of knowledge either, and I've already prewarned that even on some titles some lag might be present.

So I'm not sure how effective it would be for multiple monitors really. But they haven't stipulated they WANT dual monitors at this point. So I would assume no.

I say go with the 3900x, it’ll probably stay relevant for longer, with a budget like this, a $350-450 motherboard is probably pretty reasonable, maybe even one of the more crazy ones. Perfectly reasonable case, with a budget like this, you can spring for an overkill aio, or, if you are feeling adventurous, maybe you can try water cooling. 2080ti has plenty of power, if you felt like it, you could always do sli, but the drop off is enormous. I’ll be the one to say it, maybe a better power supply for future upgrades? Pcie 4.0 ssd? Just throwing it out there. And lastly, with a budget like that, the monitor seems perfectly fitting. Perhaps something like this:

At 4k res., there is hardly much difference between the 3900x and 9900k as the GPU will be the bottleneck. Historically, Intel CPUs in spite of having lesser cores, used to outlive AMD due to their sheer clock speed and IPC. Since this gen. Ryzen has eliminated that to the point where it is not a relevant factor anymore, the extra cores and threads of the 3900x along with its better upgrade path should give you more longevity to the build. So I would either go with Ryzen or wait for the 9900KS or next gen Intel...

I concidered a ram bump to 32gb.

But really its unnecessary right now unless something other than games is being run on this pc.
Only thought I've had ultimately is if say they get into beta gaming etc. (Like Star Citizen) then actually with the budget, you may as well maximise the potential, as much as it isn't necessary in 99% of things.

I'm tempted to stick round the 9900K route ultimately. I do like the 3900X but I am debating that typically many buyers prefer an immediate impact and the 9900K will still be a great CPU for the coming years, waiting for later series whilst great, is not feasible. I think for what the person will be using the system for, a 9900K is the max that will be needed, as much as I agree that I would generally opt for the 39000X, I believe the price hike may not be necessary.

However the ability to go to PCIe 4 is tempting and would make sense for future usage, so will see.

So thank you all for the suggestions :)
also @Hellfire13 I'd have chosen yours as a best answer AS WELL if I could!

A note on monitor...

I have used an Acer Predator 4K 32inch monitor - G-sync up to 60Hz. (i7 with 1080GTX) for the last 2 years or so...

While 60Hz is low compared with the 144Hz specified I would argue that the bigger screen size especially when you are looking at 4K res. is more important. I would personally go for a bigger display.

My PC is 6 years old and I did the upgrade to 4K monitor and 1080GTX when that card first came out, I can play any game just fine at approx 60Hz (G-sync takes care of any infrequent frame drops). At 4K you don't need much/any AAFX etc as the res is so high you won't see it anyway.
