Hi all

I work from home, and due to work and because I'd like a TV in my room that I can play content from my computer on, I'm thinking about getting a 1080p or 4K 37" TV. I've tried to figure out if the viewing distances are okay, but every chart I see tells me something else, so I hope you could shed some light.

If I'm in front of the computer, I'd say the distance is between 80 and 110 cm (31 and 43 in). If I use it as a TV, it's around 3,7m (12ft 2in). I believe that going for a 1080p would make it really hard to use for the lower distance - but would that distance even be too small for a 4K at 37in?

Please give me your advice. Thank you! :)

Hey turkey3_scratch - thanks for the answer. I have not, but is there a lot of media (movies etc.) available in 1440p? Because 1080p would look grainy, and there would be no point in playing 4K on it. And wouldn't 1440p on 37" at a distance like 3,7m be too little?

Also: Are there even 1440p 37" monitors?

If you are going for 37" 4K is a good idea. 1080p is more suited for 24" and such monitors IMO. Movies and stuff are not really in 1440p and since you will not be gaming I think that won't be optimal after all.

If all you do is watch movies and media though I'd get 1080p, when I watch movies I'm not thinking "Oh this would look so much better on 4K". 4K though if you do gaming. I'd like other people's opinions also though.

I'm watching the Super Bowl on 1080p 40" right now.

If you're going to watch movies, maybe get this TV for upscaling, it may not be as noticeable as gaming but just enough to see that it looks better than HD. Although I am uncertain if UHD upscaling can work with streaming movies/shows, I think you might have to have a physical disc if you want to use the upscaling feature.

Or get this one if you want better quality.

Hey -Lone-, thanks for your advice. Wouldn't 80cm viewing distance be too close for a TV of the size of 40"? Are there any good 37" or even 32" with 4K? Or would 32" be too small for the larger distance again?

Right now I'm sitting about 3 ft or less from my 58 inch UHD TV, lol. At first it was overwhelming, but now I'm used to it and it feels small.

Whoa, that's pretty close. Sounds like 37" would be pretty good though, maybe even bigger. I just didn't wanna take anything around 1080p because I have a 1080p TV in my living room (it's a couple years old) and if I get up close, it looks pretty bad. I guess I'll take a look at 40" UHD TVs then. Thanks! :)

Any other opinions?

Yeah, I can see everything going on in my games, it's more like I'm in it than playing it. If my TV was curved, I'd definitely be in it, hahaha

So from what I can see, only 40+ inch models are available, and the ones I can afford around the 40 to 42 inch mark all seem to heavily suffer from resolution loss upon the slightest movement on screen 🙁 any good recommendations for 40/42 inchers that do not have this problem?

Thanks!
