4k monitor wont display 60hz!!! please help

I have have a 980ti hytbrid 6gb card. which iv been told is fine for 4k gaming not at ultra but good. so i bought a 4k montior Asus 28inch 1ms 60 hz monitor.
I plugged it into the gpu with HDMI and it was super laggy with the mouse and overall not smooth like 1080. Called asus and they said to change Display stream to 1.2 instead of 1.1 and nothing changed. then we went into the display settings for my gpu driver and it was set to 30hz which he said it needs to be 60hz. But there is no seletion for 60hz. my drivers are updated and im hitting a wall. Please help ppl

You need to use displayport, not HDMI. That monitor doesn't have HDMI 2.0 which is needed for 60hz @ 4k but displayport can.

Your HDMI cable is probably 1.4, not 2.0. It can't deliver the amount of data required to power that many pixels that many times per second. Get a DP --> DP cable and your problem will likely be solved.

Can you tell us the name of your monitor? Also the cable needs to support HDMI 2.0 too, not just the monitor.

That monitor does not support HDMI 2.0, and the cable sings the same song. You need a new cable. Get DP --> DP, it's the least complicated option.

@ErickMcleod May i ask how you know? thanks for the help btw, Just wondering how you know the HDMI isnt supported. why even have HDMI ports then lol and how do you know i need Dp to DP

It supports HDMI 1.4, not 2.0. They're the same "jack" so to speak but they deliver different amounts of data. It's like USB 3.0 vs 2.0. A 3.0 cable fits into a 2.0 jack but the 2.0 jack won't deliver the amount of power necessary to power the 3.0 device.

To bring this back to relevance: HDMI 2.0 can power 4k 60hz, but 1.4 can't. But your cable isn't 2.0 anyways, so you'll need a new cable regardless.

I don't know if the 980ti supports HDMI 2.0 despite me owning one (it probably does), but your cable options are HDMI 2.0 --> DP with the HDMI plugged into the card and the DP plugged into the monitor, OR you can just get a DP --> DP cable and save yourself any hassle or stress, and just use the DP jacks on both your card and monitor. In my opinion that is the best option because it's the easiest and it sacrifices absolutely nothing.

Exactly. 2x HDMI 1.4. The key here is 1.4, not 2.0. You need to use the DisplayPort jack on the monitor to get 4k 60Hz. As the specifications mention, "60Hz over DisplayPort, 30Hz over HDMI."

It varies from game to game. The 980ti can run medium-low demanding games (Overwatch, CS:GO, Paladins, Rocket League, BF4 etc) at 4k 60+fps, sure. But I assume modern triple A games/benchmarks (GTA V, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Firestrike Ultra, etc) would give the card quite a run for its money.

I personally believe 1440p 144Hz is where the 980ti really shows itself off. The 980ti manhandles my PG278Q. But if you're not going for extremely high framerates and the "competitive edge" so to speak, then 4k is well within the scope of reason for the 980ti.

Games will look extremely crisp because of their pixel density. You won't need to use AA because you'll basically be getting the effect of MSAA/SSAA by running at such a high resolution. Also you will have tons of screen real estate for multitasking. You could easily run 2 instances of Chrome and 1 instance of Word simultaneously without sacrificing any UI. It's a dream for students, researchers, and people who generally prefer visual fidelity over performance.

what hdmi cable do you have? you need hdmi 2.0 atleast(i think) for 60 hz

I think this is a cable issue, it might be DP to HDMI 1.4 and not 2.0 etc.

i just tried a hdmi 2.0 cable and still same issue. should my gpu run 60hhz
