4k monitors running at 1920x1080?

I can't find a solid answer on this after a little bit of research online, does a 4k monitor running a 1920x1080 game look odd? or is it fine.

Should I invest in a 4k monitor, or stick with 1440p?

for gaming mainly.

(build will be able to run 4k, just not sure if its necessary/worth it?)

It doesn't scale perfectly simply because the algorithm used. It will not have 1 pixel spread over 4. It will not look like a native 1080p monitor. It'll be the same size not a little bigger as a 1080p monitor.
