I am going to buy a LG C9 OLED 55" and I wanted to know whether my current pc (an old acer aspire with a pentium) can power a 4k TV or even watch 4K content (without downloading)? What processor am I going to need and what GPU should I get for a new system to power the 4k TV.

Solution
well your system may not be able to handle 4K at all
1080p seems to be limit (for resolution)
for 4K content, that would be just slideshow

as for GPU, it shouldnt matter if u buy gt1030 or gtx1060, both will perform same for 4k movies
there is minimum cpu usage while using hardware gpu decoder

3rd gen apu is also ok
that depends on how old it is
i myself have one old notebook (from 2008) which has max resoultion over hdmi just 1080p
tv can upscale it just fine, but no 4K
as for 4K itself its usualy in h.264/h.265 or VP9 codec format
any recent GPU can hardware decode it fine (even low end), if GPU doesnt have hardware decoder, CPU will decode it, but that requires alot of CPU horse power

do you know which acer aspire u got? (model number)

The desktop model number is this: Acer Aspire AXC-603-UR28
Would something like a 1060 6gb be fine for watching or a 3rd ryzen apu? For just watching movies at 4k, does the gpu really matter as long as it supports 4k decoding?

Okay thanks, anything specific for the cpu?
