Hi Guys,

I know this question has been asked a fair few times, however I think recent 4k monitor gaming prices have dropped and there are now some more viable options.

I recently purchased another MSI 4G GTX970 to SLI with and am now looking for a monitor to make use of the extra horsepower.

Ideally I would like a 27 -28 inch monitor running at 4k. However looking at benchmarks I'll probably have to lower settings on a fair few games. My question is would it be better to get a 1440p monitor instead?

The 4k contenders are:

The 1440p contenders:

Appreciate your help guys! :)

Solution
As owner of SLI 970's, I would recommend 1440p, so you are not entirely at the mercy of SLI support (be it nVidia or the game developer). Just cause 3 for example doesn't support SLI.

Also, I would not consider TN 4k monitors, because 4k is primarily an eye-candy resolution, and it only comes in 60hz flavor, which negates one of the few advantages of TN (the reduced blur from its 1ms response time is negated by the increased sample and hold blur, but this is relatively minor). The larger the screen, the more problematic the TN gamma shift becomes, so I would rather use a quality IPS if I were to go 4k.

Basically, I would consider 4k if any only if you are willing to spend big bucks.

As stated above 1440op for the GTX 970 is great (even 1 97o will be pretty good), but 2 970s cannot handle 4k gaming, even sli with 980ti's arent great at it.

As for your 1440p monitor choices, since you are a gamer; the BenQ has a 4ms response time, the Viewsonic has 12ms. I would not get a 12ms monitor for gaming if could help it.

Have you considered a 120hz monitor with a low response time?

Hi Yes I have I'm looking at the ASUS ROG 144MHZ gaming monitor, my only issue now is that is a lot more expsnive than the Acer 4k G-sync enabled monitor:
