So recently I wanted to upgrade my 1080p monitor and I was wondering if it is worth going for the full 4K with 60hz or go for a 1440p monitor with 100+hz? My GPU is currently a gtx 970 but I am soon going to SLI, any thoughts?
The games I play are currently Battlefield, Dota, Black ops and CS:go

Acer XG270HU is a 144Hz 2560x1440 TN panel with FreeSync.
It is not a bad monitor for the price..however...
nVidia GPU such as yours does not support FreeSync.
You can use the monitor but will never be able to make use of the FreeSync.

If you wanna upgrade your monitor, you can make bigger jump by choosing monitors such as XB271HU, PG279Q, etc. but those are extremely expensive and have relative massive QC issues.
Those monitor have far better image quality than your current TN and still are very fast (144Hz/165Hz).
Actually, if you do not really wanna spend that much, I am also vote rather for waiting.

I don't really have the money to splash out on Gsync and I'm not too bothered about the color aspects and the higher the refresh rate the better really

Preferably not over £400 ($570) but the cheaper the better really

Are you saying that 4k monitors in general are expected to drop in price, as a result of more acceptance/usage, larger production volumes, and thus economies of scale, or do you have any other basis?

Reason being, I want to upgrade my older TN based 1080p 23" screen, but even a QHD monitor is considerably more expensive. If you have some insight, it would greatly help with my upgrade plans. Thanks.

I'm not desperate, I don't suppose you will know if the drop in price be significant or just subtle?
