Hi guys I've been looking into 4k for a while and I've been thinking if i should get one 4k monitor or 3 1080p screens. And the moment I've got a $100 graphics card because my 780 broke. So I've got a budget of $1200 - £700 to spend on a GPU it doesn't matter if it's one or two i can crossfire so if you could tell me good cards/card what would be able to run games on max setting on 4k and if you think i should get a 4k monitor or 3 screens.

Thanks.

Which one are you finalizing? R9 290 CF or R9 290X CF?
If its R9 290 CF, then here's my experience with the single R9 290 (Sapphire Tri X) on My 4k (Asus 60Hz 1ms):

Hello!

Firstly, yes its 60Hz. Mine is just a week old, so don't expect crystal clear info on each and every aspect, I'm yet to explore them. I'd try my best to be transparent.

So I bought it about a week ago. Assembled my rig with it. It booted, no lag nothing.

General performance: Well its perfect! Its acting like I am on a FHD and not 4k. By that I mean no lag, no clutter, crystal clear performance.

Video Streaming: Oh its absolutely amazing. tried some 4k videos from youtube, and my god was I amazed!

Gaming-normal: Easy to handle games work without ANY sort of...

I would say a 4K monitor because I don't like the edges of the screen through my game. But I would say that it's personal.
If you want a sinlge screen and hate the edges like me go for one 4K screen.
If you want ultrawide gaming and don't care about the edges then go for tripple monitor.

Mostly a good one, if not either crossfire the AMD or SLI the Nvidia.

So if you don't want to SLI or Crossfire because it may be expensive to get two cards. Then try the 780Ti or the 780 will do fine as well. Or try try the R9 290 or 290x. The 280x can do well in 4K as well.

Check this out for cards that perform well in 4K.

Hope this helps.

4k isn't a waste it's worth it. If i can play BF on middiem with 60 fps and fifa, minecraft, dead island on max with 60 fps then i'm happy.

I have a R9 290 on my 4k and its a wonderful experience! Negligible lag while playing latest titles on Ultra with 40+ FPS. I actually chose it over 780 Ti and R9 290X as it was better value for money.
I can sincerely say that a R9 290 or 290X Crossfire will smoke any game on Ultra on 4k with 60+ FPS. You get 5-10FPS more on R9 290X on most games so you can better decide if its worth it. I'd say R9 290 Crossfire will give life to any game on ultra with 50+ FPS.

Btw my preferrance is a 4k over 3 FHD as its a next gen tech and will be mainstream by the end of this decade IMO. So why not invest now and reap later?

Hope it helps :)

Here's a list if different ones.

To be honest most are about the same. It mostly comes down to your personal preference and experience with the manufacturers.

I would go with the Asus as I plan to get the 770. But I have heard that XFX makes good ones and one for the best for AMD GPU.

So I might have to leave it there for you to contemplate which one is most suitable for you.

Then get 4k :) I'd prefer ultra bf4 on 3 screens spread out but that's me :)

What R9 290 do you have because there's alot of different ones and would you say i should get a R9 290 now or wait for the 880 to see what that delivers? And will SLI R9 290's run games like BF on mid settings 60 fps?

The 880 was to be released in 2 months or so but not much news have been reported so I guess it could be delayed for another few months or so.

Ok and what R9 290 do you have?

You don't SLI AMD GPUs, you Crossfire them. And yes absolutely, they'll run BF4 on Ultra with 50+ FPS, High with 60+ FPS and Medium with 75+ FPS on 4k, but since the best 4k out there only has 60Hz refresh rate, play it with High or Ultra and enjoy :)

So Sapphire or AMD?

Your estimated wattage would be 900W+ so I'd go with atleast a 1.2kW PSU. My best choice would be this one:

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 1300W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($184.99 @ NCIX US)

Tier 1 PSU, the best available on the planet (In Gold that is), 1.3kW and superb value for money!

But, A platinum would be even better, and the best of all in all categories:

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA P2 1200W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($232.98 @ Newegg)

If you can afford that PSU (Platinum), then nothing like it! Expect 10+ Years life on heavy load :D
