For xmas, I got myself a 4k 50 in TV to use as a monitor for my PC. Everything is working wonderfully except that I have no resolution option beyond 1920x1080. I dont have a GPU beefy enough for 4k, except for older games. The problem is that no 4k resolution option is given at all, and Virtual Super Resolution is greyed out.

Here is the TV; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MYGISTO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Specs: Windows 10, 4770 3.4Ghz, 16 GB RAM, R9 390 8GB.

Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks for any info.

Solution

HDMI 1.4 has limited support for 4K (up to 30 Hz). Sometimes the option will not be available at all though, it depends on the behavior of the specific equipment involved. You need HDMI 2.0 for full 60 Hz support.

I see. Thanks for the quick info. One quick addon question, for 4k display, HDMI 2.0 is a requirement? Sorry, brand new to 4k content.
