Running an EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 with an LG 27-UL500 4K monitor via DP cable, the monitor is Freesync-enabled but not officially Gsync compatible. I’ve turned on FastSync and enabled Gsync and Freesync, but am I likely to see screen tearing with frame rates which bounce widely both above and below the refresh rate of the monitor? Part of me is tempted to go back to 144hz 1440p - the colors on my TN panel were garbage compared to this one, but the lack of screen tearing and smoothness might be worth it. In consideration, I’ll eventually be stepping up to a 3080.

" am I likely to see screen tearing with frame rates which bounce widely both above and below the refresh rate of the monitor? "

I don't think anyone can say for sure.
I have had wild fluctuation in fps and no tearing at all in certain situations.
Other times I've had horrible tearing but I was able to fix it by playing with the settings like Vsync.....frame rate caps.....etc.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m leaning more towards sticking with the 4K - the colors are just THAT MUCH BETTER, it’s like a whole new experience. I’m not a competitive gamer so I’m not worried too much about an extra frame here or there - I’m oddly fixated on performance for performance’s sake, but I love the lush visuals and rudimentary HDR that the 4K panel has.

I’ve seen people recommend setting a frame rate in games that’s one less than the refresh rate - do you have experience with that working, or is it a placebo?

Never tried it.
....but I could see where there might be something to it.
I might keep it in mind for the future if I have an issue. Usually I can fix it by playing with the settings.

What is the Freesync range of your monitor?
