4kGPU on a 1080p monitor

Hi guys first time poster ^^
I was wondering if my pc performance might be suffering.
I'm running a MSI AMD RX 480 8gb on a 24 inch 1080p monitor, and I was wondering If I would get more frames while gaming if I had a monitor that runs at least 3840 x 2160.

Sorry if it's kinda of a dumb question, I've only been part of the pc world for a few years now X3

No, the exact opposite actually.
The higher the resolution, the harder it is for the card to run.

Ok that makes sense, I was just wondering because i was told the opposite by a friend of mine who's been doing this a lot longer than i have 😛

Just ask them one question.
1920x1080
vs.
3840x2160

Multiply those, what number is bigger? That means theres more pixels, which means its harder to run.

Yep.
1920x1080 =~ 2 million pixels
3840x2160 =~ 8.3 million pixels

Thats 4x more pixels to drive, so given the same hardware and same settings, upgrading to a 4K monitor will get you about 1/4 of your current frames.

Ah ok then I guess i was being hopeful. I thought my setup would be able to run it but you have a point.
