4tb hdd only showing 1.7 tb (as a whole)

Hi I bought a 4 tb seagate Skyhawk HDD. It only shows 1.7 tb.
So I changed it to a GPT disk. (minitool partition wizz
It still only shows 1.7 TB.

The last disk I bought, I sent back for that exact reason, and nog I got the replacement, and it still shows only 1.7 (1.67 tb net).

Any ideas ?

Is your OS installed in UEFI not BIOS mode? BIOS legacy mode has a 2tb limit.

OS install doesn't matter if its a secondary drive and you format it as GPT then you're fine.

As long as the drive is blank, wipe the partitions and re-initialize the disk as GPT instead of converting it. Then you should be able to partition as youd like.

I was worried about the same thing when I added 2 TB drives to my "old" gaming system (as if 2011 is old!), but I did it this way and no problems.

I'm trying out a workaround I found.
