When I was using Mac, I have a 4TB mybook external hard drive for the mac that have movies, and other misc., so I plugged it into the windows and I clicked on no to format the hard drive since I don't want to lose the programs in the hard drive. I plugged it back into the Mac, and then it showed up this message: Partition map check failed because no slices was found. How do I get the programs out before I format the hard drive to repair it?

Hey there, @odwrae!

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD My Book drive. If you have the HDD formatted for Mac OS X, you won't be able to read/write to it on a Windows OS computer, unless you use a different file system. I suspect that the swapping of the computers might have damaged the file system on the external drive. I'd recommend you backup your data as soon as you can access it! Meanwhile, go to Disk Utility on your Mac and test the drive for defects from there.

Unfortunately, this error could lead to data loss, so I'd recommend you read through this thread as well.

Keep me posted & good luck!
