Hello!

I bought a 4TB Seagate (ST4000DM004) HDD, but I can't make it work on my Windows 10.
I have an old ASUS P8P67M-PRO mobo, but I have a 2TB Seagate HDD, very similar model, that works fine.

I can't initialize it in Disk Management, the error
" The request could not be performed because of an i/O device error " appears.

I tried all the Seagate tools to make it work, but failed.

Here's a few images that maybe can help: images

Thanks!

Try using Diskpart command from a command line terminal with administrator rights.

Edit: also try a different SATA port and SATA cable, such as the one from an existing HDD that works (e.g. your 2TB Barracuda).

I tried the diskpart, but without success. Get a message about "disk doesn't exists/was missing", something like that.

Tried several combination of cables and ports, including the cable/port of my 2 TB barracuda.

Thank you for the reply!

Sounds like the disk is faulty. Hopefully you're covered for a replacement under warranty. Good luck 🤞

Having trouble with your new 4TB Seagate HDD on Windows 10? Despite trying Seagate tools, you're seeing an "I/O device error" in Disk Management. It might be a compatibility issue with your older ASUS P8P67M-PRO motherboard. Try updating firmware/drivers for both, and test the HDD on another computer. Also, check BIOS settings for recognizing larger HDDs.
