As the title states, when I install a 4th ram into any of the slots of my MSI z-170 gaming m7, it won't boot. I get no video and it won't even boot to bios. Its not the ram because if I have three installed, it works fine and I alternated all three successfully. Also, none of the slots are bad because I've also rotated the ram between each of them and as long as I only have one to three, they all work in any combination. Its only when I had a 4th that it does this. What are the possible causes? I've updated drivers, though I didn't do a fresh windows install and I went from AMD to Intel.

Solution
Try using their Flash-Bios to upgrade to 1.60. The original 1-1.20 BIOS is causing a lot of problem with 4 sticks of memory. I had to do my full install with 8GBs, then flashed, and it finally was able to install the other two. Do this from a USB first and smooth sailing.

i have a simular problem i got the z170a m7 board and put in trident z ddr4 24000 @3000mgz and i i could get out of my cpu was .800 ghz speed , and its a i5 6600k skylake rated at 3.5 to3.9GHZ o/c. so i called intel (not a 1800 #)in costa rica .and they informed me that the cpu i7 6600k skylake cant handle the frequency of 3000 MGZ for long periods of time, and that my cpu was gone, and that they recomended 2133 mgz DDR4.im so pissed of becouse when i started this build in dec 2015 newegg sugested these memory for that board. now im out 300 dollars for 4 syicks of memory and 400+Dollars CDN for a cpu ,im sick to my stomic. and so dishartened about ever attempting another build agan.i

You mention drivers, but have not mentioned the bios. Have you used just 2 sticks, and either live update, or USB flash to update the bios? I had the exact same problem until I did this. It's common and nearly every Bios update (they've done 10 now (newest Bios is 1.B) has addressed memory issues or compatibility. If you have, it is time to RMA.

Are the ram sticks a matched set? Did you buy four of the exact same brand, speed, timing, and voltage. Mixing sticks with different stats can also cause issues.
You are right that LU6 should have updated the bios, but only if you selected that option. I flashed mine from a usb drive in the bios itself. Did you get a near full screen 'bios updating warning' ? What does your LiveUpdate say the bios number is?
If you have done everything that all of us have said, exactly right as you mentioned, then it could be a bad board. it happens sometimes. You may have to RMA.
With mine it was a combination of needing a pre-boot bios update, and then adjusting some memory settings in the bios, and also re-seating the memory because they didn't fully click in with the larger low-profile cpu fan I'm using.
Good Luck!

on the bottom of my board there are switches, this switch was in the on position, and needed to be off .apearently this switch is for not overclocking your rig to much or something ,anyway i turned it off and went into my command center and it read 4.00 ghz . i feel so stupid bothering everyone, gut i didnt know anything about that switch , anyway i wanna thank TOMS HARDWARE, bhillyer 70, and jim taylor THANKS GUYS verry much for trying to help me CHEERS

I feel the same way. I have problems with it too. I am pissed off! But this may help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hrMlv2Wg_8
