hey guys currently i'm using 4x 512 ddr400 kingston valueram. i'm getting a new c2d processor and mb in a week's time, so should i change my rams as well? or will 2x 1gb ddr2 667/800 perform basically the same as what i have now? also, would new motherboards have any issues running the ddr400 ram? i shouldnt' think so but just thought i might ask.

thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forums mate :)
well u have to change your RAM (the only Core2Duo motherboard which uses DDR RAM is an ASROCK board which i dont recommend)
so get a DDR2 800 RAM with good timings (if u want to OC) like 4-4-4-x or lower

thanks! i spent all afternoon reading some of the articles here and i must say they're pretty informative =]

wow i didn't know that!
would 800 have a significant performance boost over 667? reason i'm asking is cus 667 rams here are real cheap. about 25usd for 1gb

LOL i just realised that i think i'm using the ASROCK board that you mentioned. i bought it about 2 years ago. i've been having problems like occasional inability to boot, and it's around time to upgrade anyway so i'm changing both mb and cpu as well.

your probably not using the one he suggested ;)

However I will agree with their suggestions :)

And heck..for the same price (if not lower) go with 800 ram..its silly not to :)
try and go for 4-4-4-12 if possible.

ASUS P5PE-VM also supports DDR1 and AGP thanks to the Intel 865 chipset

why not? it supports dual core, and runs ddr1.

the rams are not of the same price. 667 rams here cost 23bucks/1gb. and 800 rams cost 35/1gb.

still think it's worth the extra price?
