First post here in YEARS and I'm hoping someone can help me. Also if this is in the wrong section I apologize
I'm trying to play surround sound out of my Bose Acousitmass Speakers with my PC (windows 7 ultimate). Currently my PC is plugged directly into my TV via HDMI (Zotac 760 vid card) and into my receiver (Pioneer VSX9040txh) via spdif (From Sound Blaster Audigy RX). Now I know the speakers work fine because my PS3 is hooked up the same way (HDMI to TV, spdif to receiver) and the surround sound clicks on fine when I start a game or movie (the receiver is set to auto surround).
So now that that's out of the way here is the issue. My computer is only playing Stereo, and the left speaker is WAY louder than the right speaker. When i go into my playback devices and click properties on my SB Audigy spdif it doesn't allow me anything else other than 2 channel under the advanced tab default format. Also when I go to configure the speakers to 5.1 it won't play any sound out of the rears or centre (although I assume this is due to the receiver being set to auto and thus defaulting to stereo when plugged into the PC). That being said if it's set to auto it should flip to surround when I try to test the speakers no? I have the SB Audigy Control Panel set to 5.1 but it doesn't make a difference. I read somewhere that spdif can't play surround unless you have either DDL or DTS connect (which I stupidly bought and paid for before being told my sound card doesn't support either, stupid of me I know) so that was a bust. Is there an easy solution to getting the surround to play out of my speakers from my PC? If there isn't am I forced to go to HDMI for everything? (which i've read is the better way to do it but I'm not super clear on how audio via video card works, does it simply act as a pass through and let the receiver decode the audio or does it try to do it itself).
If there is a way to get 5.1 via spdif and anyone knows I'd be greatly appreciative. Or even if anyone knows how to get a more balanced sound out of my stereo settings that would help too
Thanks
