Hi guys,

I am having trouble setting up 5.1 sound on my steel legend x670e motherboard.

there are only 3 audio jacks; 2 on the io shield and 1 on the front panel. When I plug in the 2 at the back, I can get sub and front speakers working, but as soon as I plug in the rear speakers (on the front panel) , i get sound from the rear speakers but then the front speakers/sub stops working.

My guess is the front panel jack is headphones, which then mutes the other speakers.

I'm using a lian li 216, and I suspect that I need to use a microphone jack for the rear speakers, but the front panel on the case only has 1 jack, which is headphones.

Am I missing a trick? I've set everything up according to the manual...

In Realtek Audio control software do you see disable front panel jack detection option? Turn it on if it's there. On means it won't treat front panel jack as headphones and shouldn't disable rear jacks.

I have the realtek audio console, is that what you mean?

There is no option to disable any Jack's, its pretty basic.

I've noticed that when I click on "device advanced settings" it shows what's Jack's are in use. When I plug a jack into the front input, its shows that both the headphone and rear speaker out options are in use.

Yeah Audio console. This is what it looks like for me. Disregard the 2nd yellow circle, this was for someone else i was helping. Although Asus Intel, Audio console should be the same for all Realtek audio. It's bugged as hell ever since Realtek off loaded it's software to MS store, not supplying Audio manager no longer. So it's a hit or miss what you get.

This what i have

Now i don't know what Asrock has available for download, maybe check what they have. If not, this is where i got my driver from. Can give it ago i guess, it's meant for Amd chipsets as well just Asus branded. And being Realtek is pretty universal it should work. Just the matter of picking which one to go for. Try the very last one.

thanks, I've cleaned the old drivers for good measure and followed the instructions, but i cant download the audio console app from the store.

think it's a problem with the store, I'll keep trying...

It can be a pain to download audio console if you have automatic device driver installations disabled. It will eventually download though if you click on the button on the page that gives the error.

click....click...click....click....click....click...click....click....click....click...click....click....click....click...click....click....

not sure if this download will ever work =)

I've done it a few times on different computers. I don't think clicking it was what i had to do Wish i could remember. Maybe try ms store via website instead of app.

After work ill have a look

I've just redone it. Did you go into the driver you downloaded and go to apps folder and use Realtek Audio Control link? I assumed you had an issue with downloading the software and now im thinking you can't see it in Microsoft store? It's not on there if you open apps from Windows need to use the link that's in the apps folder included with the driver.

Website used to have Console and Dts custom linked on main page to install manually, just noticed now he changed it so links are included in driver folder instead. I saved image for myself some time ago just in case website disappeared :)

I uninstalled Audio Control/Console and it installed fine. If you are using link within driver download can you show me in picture whats happening?

So this is what I see in the app folder, links to the MS store:

I am just trying to install the Audio Control as I believe that's the one I need.

And when I click on that I can see:

And it won't install. Probably not a bad thing for an app rated 1.9 😀

The URL is ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9p2b8mcsvpln for the link to app.

Hmm. What's it say in details list of error?

Try install dts custom first, see if that changes things with audio console being able to install.

Yeah ratings is bad lol but still need it. Wish Realtek hadn't changed how it does things with it's software...so many people have problems with missing features.

The message is fairly generic, just keeps failing with a "Reporting this problem will help us understand it better. You can wait a bit and try again or restart your device. That may help." error.

Tried installing the DTS App first, that installed successfully, but still the same error when I try to install the audio control app.

Hmmm...

Ok, So I installed the drivers on the Asrock site for the board, and now I can install the realtek audio console. So it clearly didn't like me having the asus drivers for an asrock board.

But, I can't change anything in the app (basically I'm back to where I started).

I looked in the BIOS, just in case there is something in there, the only option is HD Audio on/off.

Ah, I think I have worked it out.

The case I have is a Lian Li 216. On the front panel, there is only a headphone out socket.

Looking in he manual for the motherboard, the 2 rear jacks handle the sub/center speakers, and the front L/R speakers. The microphone out (front) handles the rear, and headphones (front) handles the side speakers.

So basically, I cannot get 5.1 working :/

Is there a USB dongle that could do this? Or could I use HDMI?

Have a look here, there's quite the discussion on this. Search pegged me on page 46, haven't gone through it all. You might find something.
