5.1 optical solution

I recently got a 4K tv but my audio receiver is a little old and unable to pass through anything more than 1080p through hdmi. Optical works fine with my consoles but my motherboard doesn't have the ability to output 5.1. I've been doing research on sound cards but there seems to be a lot of back and forth on which cards will be able to carry the signal. I only use the PC for gaming so I'm not worried about movies if that matters. Thanks for any help

optical can only take compressed 5.1 and not uncompressed.

I would get a HDMI2.0 splitter, and run one to the amp for 5.1 and one to the TV, assuming that your mobo is also hdmi 2.0.
