ive looked everywhere online and cant find an asnwer. i have the gigabyte ga-970a-ud3 motherboard and on the specs it says 5.1/7.1 sound and it does have a spdif/optical connection. im trying to connect my home theater system to it but it only does 2.0 sound. on my pc audio playback options its set to "spdif interface txo" and when i right click and go into properties 5.1 dolby digital and dts are already checked in and when i test it they do 5.1 but when i try playing a game it just does 2.0 sound. is there a setting i am missing or this motherboard cant do 5.1 like it says on their specs? thanks everyone for your help

well i read the link you gave me but some stuff i just dont get. i am not really a huge tech guy and i really just thought i just needed to plug in the spdif cable and i was set with 5.1 audio for games. i guess everything on pc always has to be more complicated. so based on what i read maybe a sound card with dolby digital live will probably work? if that doesnt work i just need to get a sound system for pc with the color audio connections. i just really didnt wanna spend another $60-100 on a pc speaker system to get 5.1 and just thought i would use my home theater system. kinda weak...

I really just thought it would be as easy as connecting a gaming console to a sound system with an optical cable. I have a Bose 321 system
