Hello All,
I've posted a question similar to this to the target shooting newsgroup but
no replies as yet, this newsgroup may be able to help.
A mate has some 5.56mm centrefire unfired blanks and has asked me if these
are any good for reloading? They are necked down to I've no idea what, they
have LIA 3, 0.4 and RG on the base. I'm not up on rifle stuff but some of
you may know whether they are useable for any type of shooting we do. I
think they're a military calibre but not sure, Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Dave

Dave, 5.56 is indeed the civilian .223 round.
You will likely find than the blanks will be berdan primed cases and are
problematic for reloading. I would also hazard a guess that the powder
is a black powder substitute (like pyrodex) and not standard military
ball powder or nitro powder if you like.
I’m not sure about the LIA 3 & 0.4 on the head stamp but RG (Radway
green) is the maker. The head stamp will mean something for example H/S
RG-89 would suggest a Radway green incendiary round made in 1989.

Hello John,
Thanks a lot mate. I talked to a mate this morning and he told me they were
the .223 equivalents. I told the bloke that brought them to me I doubted
they would be of any use to anyone other than the military. I'll let him
know.
Regards
Dave
