$5 difference-- 4670k or 4690k?

It's a 100MHz (102.4MHz exact) or (0.1GHz) difference.

The 4690K also has next-gen Haswell technology (Devil's Canyon vs Older Haswell). However, to see the difference you need a Z97 motherboard.

The 4690K has a turbo frequency of 3.9GHz while the 4670K does not.

The 4670K has a TDP that is 4 watts lower. (84w vs 88w)

The 4690K is definitely worth the extra $5

Ok cool, now my friend is convincing me when I get the graphics card to go with a 970, would that bottleneck?

Not at all, they work quite well together actually. Especially since it is an i5K model, so you can overclock the CPU very easily.

Any unlocked i5 or i7 won't bottleneck.

You won't see bottlenecks until 3-way maybe 2-way SLI

Devils's Canyon is not a new architecture. Devils canyon cpu's are haswell cpu's with a next generation thermal conductor instead of regular thermal paste on older haswells between die and ihs.
Also, the I5 4670k turbo's to 3.8ghz.
After all, the difference is minimal. If you only want to oc to ~4.2ghz, go with the cheaper one. For running on stock or oc'ing higher, the little extra is worth it.
