Question 5 pin connection for cpu and fan header on motherboard Dell 9010?

SPECS: processor i5-3570, motherboard Q77 Dell motherboard, PSU: haven't decided yet, RAM: 8GB DDR3 from Dell 9010


Hello can someone please help i just took apart a dell 9010 system and decided to put in another case, after i installed into the new case i ran into problem because the motherboard DELL Q77 use's a 5 pin header for both the CPU and FAN_HEADER i tried connecting with the 4 pin from the Arctic Freezer Esports cooler into it it doesn't fit into the 5 pin do i need to buy an adapter or do i have to get an entirely different motherboard for this to work? the motherboard is called DELL Q77.

Those Dell boards are proprietary , can't mount them in a standard ATX case. The case power pinouts are also different.

I know this thread is 2 years old, but I wanted to point out that this statement isn't actually true (in 2022). There are plenty of videos on YouTube covering how to transplant your OptiPlex guts into another case. Yes, there are some hiccups like front panel and fan headers, but there are also a lot of solutions offered.

I came here because the OP asked exactly my question, and I was surprised to find a "you can't do that" on Tom's Hardware. Once I find a solution (fingers crossed), I'll be sure to either update this post or add to the thread.

Here ya go. Just remove the fan header from the old fan and put the wires of the new fan in the correct order into the old header. Wiring diagram pops up at 6:10 in the video.
