Question 5 Short Beeps Only When RAM In

Hi there,

Specs for reference:

Xeon 2650V3
Sapphire RX480 4GB
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3800MHz RAM
Crucial BX500 SSD
Huananzhi X99-8M mobo
Snowman CPU cooler
EG CR24 Case

I shipped my PC (well packaged in original packing) to my new address and it now makes 5 short beeps when booting. Any connected monitors don't show anything ("No HDMI signal") despite all the PC fans/lights running.

I took the RAM (the only stick) out and booted, the beeps didn't sound. I then replaced the RAM and the five beeps resumed.

Does this mean faulty RAM or something else? Is this possible as a result of rough handling from the delivery man?

Many thanks for your help!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

See if removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard, while the system is powered down and disconnected from the wall, before replacing it after 30 mins changes the issue.

You will need to take your stick of ram to a donor system and see if that stick works on donor system. If it does, then the fault is with your motherboard's ram slot or you might be having a static charge build up or you have a grounding issue in your new residence.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for your warm welcome and detailed response.

I've tested the RAM in the other mobo slot to no avail, so doesn't seem like a slot issue.

Is there any way to test for static charge build-ups or grounding issues?

I assume that by 'replace' the CMOS battery, you mean re-installing the same one as before, right?

I'm also going to order another RAM stick online as if it works, my current stick must've been damaged during transport.

Many thanks again for your help.

Update on the issue: I bought a new stick of RAM to test if the RAM was the culprit but the issue is persisting.

It seems strange that the beeps don't sound when there's no RAM in the PC, but the RAM sticks evidently aren't to blame.

Any thoughts on what I can try next in order to diagnose the issue? None of my local specialists are open due to COVID...

Many thanks
