Well it's about that time, built my last PC in 2015 and I need to upgrade! I'm a video editor, and need to build for that - it will not be for gaming! I'm not interested in 6k editing and use proxies to edit 4k already, but I do want to have this rig last at least another 5 years.

I can follow instructions with the best of 'em but I don't have the mind to build the list, looking for help!

Currently running:
Motherboard: ASRock H97 Pro4
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1246 V3 3.5ghz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) DDR3-2133, and Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB(2x4) DDR3-1600
Power: OCZ Fatal1ty 550W
Various SSD/HDDs for OS and media, these will carry over to the new build

With a budget of $1500 what can I build??

Thanks for your help

I can hang 'till then! Do you think the suggested list above from @g-unit1111 would still be a good setup with a B550 board? Considering budget anyway
His build would be a huge step up in performance in every aspect. You will find it hard to get a better combination of parts.

This would be my personal list at 1500 dollars:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor ($419.99 @ Walmart)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler ($68.53 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($161.23 @ Newegg)
Storage: HP EX950 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($155.86 @ Newegg)

I'm open to a full rebuild, but I currently have a Corsair 200R tower. If any parts I have now can be repurposed I'd keep them!

You could definitely reuse your case if you want. That said I would suggest something like this. The only bad thing is AMD motherboards are hard to find right now because of COVID but the B550 series should be here in a couple of weeks. This is what I would suggest:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor ($419.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S 55 CFM CPU Cooler ($62.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard ($269.99 @ Best Buy)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($124.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($199.98 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB VENTUS GP OC Video Card ($399.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($127.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $1605.91

This is only over budget because of COVID but the motherboard should usually be cheaper which would put the system price around the ~$1550 range.

Everyone is building during lockdown I guess! Or the parts aren't being built...yea I thought I'd have to wait a few weeks, maybe start buying pieces at a time over a couple months even.

I appreciate the list! I was looking at Ryzen 7 series but I'll compare further. I do like my case, it has a good peekaboo window on the side (compared to the link above), nice to know I can keep it.

I keep my tower tethered so no need for wifi - I'll look for X570 boards (or comparable) w/o wifi perhaps find more availability. This is a solid foundation to work from and/or copy, thanks!

Would it be worth waiting a month to get a B550 board?

Well it's a bit of both. I know I'm upgrading my rig since we can't go anywhere or do anything and I've settled on getting the 3900X.

The hard part is finding the motherboards, pretty much everything else seems to be keeping plenty of stock (cases, power supplies, CPUs, RAM, GPUs, etc). Though that could change with the availability of the new Intel LGA 1200 series and the AMD B550 series should be available by the end of June hopefully.

I like the idea of waiting until June for a 550 board but I'll likely start buying the rest to keep my packages coming in the meantime - appreciate the advice and parts lists thanks! @helper800
