Hello.
I live in the UK and Im currently trying to pick a good 500w-ish power supply without breaking the bank. Ive narrowed it down basically to the Antec Truepower 550w Gold for £70 or a much cheaper XFX 500w Bronze for £40. Is the Antec worth the extra £30? Does it make a huge difference? Do XFX make good PSUs? Any other reccommendations will be appreciated. Dont want to spend more than £70.
Thanks

XFX XT 500W PSU is made by Shenzhen Rui Sheng Yuan Technology and that PSU is crap.

Antec Truepower Classic 550W PSU is made by Seasonic and it's a good quality PSU. Though, it's fully wired and gives a nice headache in cable management.

For modular PSU and under 70 quid, you can go with Seasonic M12II-520 EVO which also is good quality PSU,

All my 3 PCs: Skylake, Haswell and AMD are also powered by Seasonic. Full specs with pics in my sig.

Super Flower and Seasonic units are good quality but same can't be said about Corsair CXM series. At best, Corsair CXM series are mediocre quality.

To OP:
Here's PSU Tier list from where you can look up the build quality of different PSUs,
link: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

I suggest getting Tier one (great quality) or Tier two (good quality) unit.

The Antec is good, the XFX is one I wouldn't touch. (XFX does have good PSUs, as mentioned above I wouldn't use that particular model.)

Why are you looking only at OCers.uk? Using partpicker will open you up to more sites. I'm checking only Amazon.uk.

Cheap basic PSU that will work. Not flashy or the best, but will get the job done. Warning, some might come in here and tell you this PSU is crap and shouldn't be touched. It's a knee jerk reaction to seeing a basic PSU. If you are powering a 750TI or a 1050TI this PSU is fine.

Your Antec PSU will work if you want something flashier.

That's what I get for under £70. I'd not consider much else.
But then again, I'm one of those ppl who believes that the psu is absolutely the single most important component in any pc and steadfastly refuses to cut any corners or settle for mediocre. By all rights, the psu should be the very last thing to worry about if there is potential issues. I personally want to smack ppl upside the head when they build a £1000+ pc, spend an extra £100 on a fancy gpu, yet balk at spending out (eg) £70 for a good psu when they can spend £50 for a comparable size unit of lesser quality. But thats just me, I think.

That is completely untrue. I am guessing you got that from that tier list, which contain so many flaws it's more misleading than helpful.
The new Corsair CX450M/CX550M/CX650M are great budget units with good quality and electrical performance. It even out performs the much loves Seasonic S12ii and M12ii, as well as being newer.
Don't go by tier lists. Always try to find professional reviews specific to the model in mind. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/corsair-cx650m-psu,4770.html

The tier list as such doesn't really have flaws, what it is is outdated. While normally this wouldn't be an issue, companies like Corsair have an aggravating tendency to reuse their naming and thats can get highly confusing. There are older CX models, newer CX models, CX-M, CXM and of course units like the TT TR2 are a pain. The list is a tool, not gospel, and for its time frame is made up of those professionals reviews, so is pretty accurate for its applicable units, but maybe not for specific new series or units.

It being outdated isn't an excuse for it not having flaws. It is more the reason to stay away from it. This topic explains alot of them: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/590mee/please_stop_using_psu_tier_lists/
Nevertheless this tier list is misleading, and not suggested for PSU beginners looking for a unit.

From your reddit link (really? Reddit?) most of his issues are judgment calls. That's why I dislike tier lists like this. There should be only three. Excellent/good to use, use if you have to, and fire hazard/avoid. Being upset that something is in tier 3 and it should be in #4 is dumb. I've seen lists with 1a and 1b. Really? This is also why I can recommend even the original CX units because they fall in my "tier 2". For a basic unit they are fine.

I am going to ask you to drop this however. Arguing over what tier a unit belongs in is a thread hijack and isn't related to what the OP is asking help for. You are welcome to open your own thread about this, but it doesn't really belong here.
