Just trying to put together a cheap computer around $500. Planning on using this mainly for multitasking in CAD and light gaming. any input would be much appreciated.

The fx series processors may look good on paper, but they are actually quite lacking in performance, even compared to new quad cores.

This build will beat the 8350 build in every way, and although it doesn't include an SSD you can easily add one.

Yes, I think i get what you mean. don't you think that the amd 1500x is a bit much for this system though. I am thinking that a 1400 or 1300x would be better suited to this. I think that it is necessary to have a ssd in this system though...

Get a Ryzen 3 1200 build for $25 more that can overclock to match i5-7400~i5-7500 in games. Plus it does have future upgrade options.

I think that i would really not like to over-clock at all. this will be the first time building and I dont want to mess with that.

I don't think that the 1400 is "too powerful" for your build. I also think that even if you don't want to overclock that you should invest in a b350 board (overclockable) over an a320 board (not overclockable) because and should release another 2 generations of CPUs on this platform and by then you may have changed your mind and would need to buy another motherboard. B350s are also generally a bit higher quality than A320.

I have just taken your build, gotten 2 sticks of faster ram and a better power supply and changed case + Mobo to keep price the same

1. I was wondering about the evga b-stock. what exactly does that mean. is it just refurbished.
2. how many more years will this socket be relevant for amd
3. what is a ram speed that is needed to notice significant performance benefits

Evga b stock is refurbished, but it still meets the same performance and reliability standards of a new card. It is pretty much the same as a new card with shorter warranty and a discount.

I believe the am4 socket will be relevant for around 4 years

The biggest performance difference in ram for ryzen comes between 2133 and 2666mhz ram. The 2666 can perform make the cpu perform 5-10% faster than 2133

Ok, have you ever used EVGA refurbished things before?
How would you estimate the performance of this system against an intel 4560, if it compares easily.
does this system have good performance for the money or is there a clear better way to go?

The ryzen will beat the Pentium by around 15% in gaming and pretty much double it in multitasking.
I have not ever bought refurbished evga before, but I haven't heard anything bad about it either.
