Hello,
I'm looking to upgrade my current build:
- Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2 Motherboard
- AMD Phenom 9850 CPU
- AMD Radeon 7770 HD GPU
- SSD Kingston 120GB SSDNow V300
- G.SKILL 2 GB DDR2-800 x4
- Thermaltake TR2 RX 450W PSU
By replacing CPU, Motherboard and RAM and in the next 2-3 months the GPU as well. I plan to use this configuration for gaming (running games like Witcher 3, AC Unity, Batman Arkham Knight and the likes) and 3D animation and modeling (I work in Autodesk Maya 3D and to a less degree in ZBrush and Mudbox). The budget for CPU, Mobo and RAM is $500, while I'm still undecided about GPU, but am strongly leaning towards ~$200 (more on that later).
Here's what I had in mind:
- Intel i5-4690K 3.5GHz 6MB LGA1150
- Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3
- Kingston HYPER X Savage 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Later purchase:
- Gigabyte G1 Gaming R9 380 4GB GDDR5
OR
- Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 GAMING 4GB GDDR5
Here's some of the things I'm leaning heavily for: I really like the 4690K CPU, I would very much like to keep that. The 8GB single RAM is simply because I'll be looking to add another 8GB later on, then if necessary continue buying 1x + 1x. OR would it simply be better to stack 4GB x4?
I'm NOT sold on the motherboard, however, wherever I push, it gets me over the budget. Does anyone have any experience with this one, or any other recommendation in that price range.
My motherboard always takes a bullet during purchase and then I pay for it later on, would love to avoid that, but not in favor of replacing a CPU.
As for the GPUs which I will be purchasing hopefully before New Years...I'm leaning HEAVILY towards GTX 960 simply because it would mean I don't have to change my PSU, which would add more to the budget, meaning that R9 380 would cost me from $80-$100 more. From what I've seen the two cards are pretty close, with 380 taking the edge only slightly, but not for the cost of upgrade it would turn out to be for me.
I realize I'm trying to fit in a racing car for small money and I'll have to take a hit somewhere, I'm just looking for recommendations on where it'll hurt the least.
The resolution I'll be running this at will be at 1080p.
