I'm trying to build a gaming of with a $500 budget.

This would be best, since it has possibility for cpu upgrade later (can fit i5 4690 for example)

Is there another cpu that is close to the i3 but quad core. Several of games I want to play require a quad core cpu. Or can the i3 act as a quad-core? Thanks

What games do you want to play? The i3 has two dedicated cores but with the help of Hyper-threading they support four threads.

As i can understand from these articles, in most cases you will limited by your gpu.
