Hi. I recently upgraded to a sapphire rx 5700xt nitro+ from a 1060 and I am experiencing stuttering in certain games, the GPU utilization jumps from 40-50% to 99% and back, resulting in inconsistent fps.

It's paired with a Ryzen 5 2600 oc'ed to 3.8 GHz @ 1.18V and 2 sticks of 8 GB 3000mhz.

I went to PSU calculator and got a little over 500W, something like 540, but my PSU is only 500. Could this be the problem? Should I upgrade to a 650W instead?

I don't know what could cause the problem other than this or it being a faulty unit.

Thank you very much!

The Hexa 500W is a budget entry level PSU. It has two +12 volt rails rated @ 18 amps each for a total output of 408 watts. It may work now but you're pushing it using it for a...

Make and model of your PSU and it's age? Yes, in retrospect, I'd get a higher wattage, reliably built PSU that is of 650W to deliver to the entire system.

Also, what are your current specs? List them like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Did you use DDU to uninstall your drivers prior to removing the GTX1060 GPU?

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 OC'ed to 3.8 GHz 1.18V
Motherboard: ASRock AB-350M-HDV
Ram: 2x HyperX Predator 8GB 3000 MHz CL15
SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB
HDD: WD BLUE 1TB 7.2K RPM
GPU: Sapphire RX 5700XT NITRO+
PSU: FSP HEXA Plus 500W
Chasis: Deepcool Tesseract BF
OS: Windows 10

I bought the PSU ~ 2.5 years ago and it's been in my pc ever since, i've never had any problem with it.
I have used DDU prior to installing the new AMD drivers as well.

The Hexa 500W is a budget entry level PSU. It has two +12 volt rails rated @ 18 amps each for a total output of 408 watts. It may work now but you're pushing it using it for a gaming system. Its ability to deliver clean, sufficient power is sketchy at best. This PSU is not designed for use with a high end video card and would be best suited for a home office pc where it won't be experiencing high loads on a regular basis.

Thank you! I just went and bought a Seasonic Focus GX-650 and finished mounting it. Will see if the problem persists.

That's a great PSU and should serve you well. Cheers.

Sadly, that wasn't the problem. I've tried other things as well like disabling HPET, installing older driver versions, but to no avail, although I think the older drivers are a little bit more stable. Might just be placebo though.

I'm gonna try to get a refund and maybe get another of the same model or maybe go with a 2070 super. Thank you very much for your help.

If it's working properly it has sufficient power but I don't recommend Coolermaster PSU's to anyone since they have so many poor quality models.

I agree, but the one i have is not like those elite models that are released lately .. i've tried them on other pc's and yes they are poor quality psu's .. but mine is a bit higher quality than that and it had good reviews when it was released and it is semi modular psu .. but do you think still i need to consider a new psu Even if it is working??

No. If it's working well continue using it. As a side note, I truly don't mind answering your questions, but the mods here would prefer you start your own thread next time.
