I have just bought a new system and wondered if my 500w psu would work.

Important Components
AMD FX - 6300 95w idle ~200w peak
GTX 580 ???w idle ~300w peak
PSU 500w Modular Corsair Builder Series. rated 80 plus bronze

This is just from my own research but as you can see it looks like it will be pretty close at full load.
I had a look at the corsair website and its rated for 500w continuous output. so what i wanna know i guess is should i upgrade? id rather not really.
I was gonna get a gtx 660 but i saw the 580 on ebay for £150 and i was like YES THATS THE ONE! so i though i would be fine up till then. Soo yeah do you think that i can stick with the 500w psu or should i get a 600w or 750w one?
I'd rather not get a new one but id also like to know what happens if the pc was to draw too much wattage/current. Just out of interest

CX500 would be able to supply even 600watt but not at the bronze efficiency. So I wouldnt be worried if I were you.
As for the sound, I think that GTX580 will make more noise than your PSU, though I might be wrong here. But...
Ok thanks for your opinions! I would still like to know: what would happen if the PC was to draw too much from the psu? Would it just shut down or would it damage components? I would certainly not like to get too close if that were the case.

Also would you recommend undervolting to keep the system that bit more efficient/further away from the wattage/cool/less noisy? (I like to listen to music via speakers not noise canceling headphones)

Keeping your system at 350watt should be easy for you and remain under 30dB which is not loud, in my opinion, you should not need doin any undervoltage.

Thanks I've seen a few of your posts before but have you got any thing showing this? id be surprised if it is that because on the corsair website it states 500w continous power. Thats quite a claim to make if your gonna sell a 456w psu.
Thanks

Okay thanks so should that be enough?

Yes! The point was that CX500M can deliver 456watt at your GPU which is more than enough to give power to 6950 even while runnng furmark :).

Okay thanks again you guys.
