I'm building a pc based on MSI z370 MB. I have experience with making my own RGB adressable lightning with WS2812 strips and arduino without the need for any remotes (adressing them from arduino that is connected to motherboard USB pins).
So my question is: do the 4 pin RGB LED connectors from the motherboard control the individual addressable LEDs or does it just provide power and color for the whole strip?

Solution
I would think it would depend on the motherboard. Does the motherboard have a dedicated port for RGB lighting control? If yes then it would probably support it - you would need to plug one cable into the dedicated port and probably another into the internal USB port. If not then the LEDs would need a dedicated controller. I would double check the requirements of the motherboard itself before ordering.
