Recently I picked up a 5200 Ultra and have read a few not so good things about it. I currently run DirectX 8 on a 1 GHZ Athlon and considered exchanging the card. The only choices I have are the ATI 9000 or 9200. No SE or LE version. Should I stick with the Ultra or go to one of these? Thanks. I will be upgrading whatever card I keep in 6 months or so.

P.S. I know about the Ti 4200, but its not an option :(

Why not, is it because you can't find one locally? There are plent of them from online retailers. I just bought 3 of them a couple months ago & SPLENDID cards they are.

Edit: I just read your entire post now: I would see if you could exchange for a Radeon 9100 It should cost about the same as a 9200 & a 9000 & would be the fastest of all 3 of these. If not, go for the 9000 card, definitely.

Cards for you (sorted according to speed):

GeForce4 Ti4200 64 MB
Radeon 9100 64 MB
Radeon 9000 PRO 64 MB
Radeon 9200 64 MB
Radeon 9000 (non-PRO) 64 MB

I think FX5200 Ultra is not worse than Radeon 9000 (non-PRO). So don't get anything lower than Radeon 9200

The Radeon 8500/9xxx line is one of the most ill-labeled product lines I have EVER seen.

WHy won't they let you get a Ti4200. THere even cheaper than the FX5200 and FAR better.

There's no performance difference between 128 MB and 64 MB Radeon 9200. This is why I told you to get 64 MB, because it should be cheaper than 128 MB version.

If you can't find the 64 MB version or price is equal to 128 MB, then get the 128 MB version.

IMO, many retailers consider Ti4200 as a (former) high-end product. They may not want to replace a current budget card with a former high-end card
