Hi,

I recently bought Thermatech 530W PSU for my PC and planning to buy a GTX 970 gpu soon.

I am wondering is my PSU good enough for the Nvidia GTX 970.

Pls give your feedback.

:)

haha this feels like an interrogation :p but yeah, according to http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm, 500w is enough, however, quality is another story. I have a 970 and it's being powered by a XFX TS 550W, which is a Tier II psu, you should return your PSU if it's deemed "not good enough" and get either a capstone 550w, a seasonic s12II 520 or my PSU, xfx ts 550w. all are great and will supply more than adequate power to ur system :)

you want around 40+ 12v amps to be safe with a 970 system. that psu only has 38 amps. it will run the system but you will be running the psu above recommend usage and it may not last very long. choice is yours but i personally would upgrade the psu at the same time.

i will usually push a psu beyond what others feel is safe when the math adds up but in this case it does not.

yes it is but you're not trying to overtax the psu. lower tier psu's can be ok for normal use. you start running into issues when trying to run a cheap psu at near max capacity. you're using low enough power that even inefficiencies are covered. if you plan on upgrading the system, then get a new psu with it. but for what you have it is good enough for now.

it sure is a pretty psu though. too bad, the quality ones are not as good looking as this. i think this is why they do this with cheap psu's hard not to see it and not say ooooohhhhhhhhh i want that one :0

You are skating on thin ice using such a low quality unit(tier 5). That aerocool is made by Andyson who is consider one of the worst PSU manufactures still managing to somehow stay in business. You can just look at how many amps a unit has, There are other things that need to be considered one big one is voltage regulation, poor voltage regulation kills hardware. Capacitors is another area to look at, poor capacitors reduce the life span of the unit and if a cap on the primary side fails bad things can happen especially on a cheap unit that skimped on voltage protection if they bothered using any to begin with.

What's so wrong with that thermaltake se 530watt?
At jonnyGuru forum are they not too alarmed by it,
http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=11&ved=0CCAQFjAAOAo&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jonnyguru.com%2Fforums%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D11336&ei=drulVKGHB8avU_CahLAL&usg=AFQjCNHeOs_KVXeAkIi9dQAY3eIJDN_EdA&bvm=bv.82001339,d.d24&cad=rja
they seem to think it's not that bad.
