Question 55% memory usage and I think it's higher than it should be

My task manager is showing 55% memory usage and I think that's too high. I look at the processes and I dont' think it adds up. I have Firefox and chrome open, discord and steam is in the system tray.

I ran Ccleaner and spybot and it's still showing 55%. If I close Firefox, chrome and steam, discord, I go down to 45%

Anyone know what to do here? my PC isn't slowing down, but Im just worried something is going on in the background.

what is it like after a restart?

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

run malwarebytes? Virus scan?

is sig accurate? are you on 7 or 10?

I reset and it helps, went down to 35%

I have 16GB of RAM

Im not sure if this is high or not

download and run microsoft rammap from here:
RAMMap - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn

select the menu item "empty" and select each option to clean up.
microsoft loads programs into a standby list as a performance enhancment.
ie loads programs you have run before into RAM just in case you want to run it again.
clearing the list will make the system appear to us less RAM.
