So I've been using my 550ti as a secondary GPU two take (very small load) off my GTX 980.
Everything works just fine, i managed to crank my avg. FPS in Heaven from 57 to 66 which is nice but I started noticing that my 550ti's idle temp is always 50 degrees (Celsius).

Possible important information:
24gb of dual-channeled ram
4790k (supporting a total of 16 pcie lanes)
GPUs are both in pcie x8 (gen. 3)

Shader clocks, memory clocks and gpu clock are all max constantly on my 550ti which concerns me.
Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated!

Well i can't say since i started using it just now after a few years of storage. But I'll definatly look into that!
I have another question if you don't mind answering;
Is there any good way to tell which GPU to to what, to (not completely) remove all load from my 980

Thanks for all the help!

I don't understand ??? I guess you could use the 550ti as a dedicated PhysX card along side the 980 ???

I never done that so ??? to be honest I guess the benefit is minimal and not worth it overall , heck I don't even install PhysX when I install NVidia drivers , don't think anything I got or use even uses it [modern NVidia PhysX] I got things that uses the original agiea PhysX that's stand alone from NVidia now .

maybe if you had that card in storage the thermal paste got hardened / ''stale '' and may need fresh thermal paste ??

There is usually an option in the nvidia control panel which lets you determin which gpu does what (ex: telling ur gaming laptop to use nvidia gpu instead of intels) but its not there...

Thanks, Im using windows 10 home 64-bit btw
Im currently using 376.54 (thats the driver windows 10 downloaded for me, all the other drivers appear to fail when installing).
I'll give your drivers a try.

Update: No drivers appear to work to install, ill keep using the 376.54 that windows rolls out through update...

ya, I just don't know with 10 I do know I'd have to really dislike you to recommend its use . sad part is with these new builds and hardware your pretty much trapped in to it or Linux .

I do feel Linux is now the better option with 10 you may find it does what Microsoft want you to use not what you want to do or use . like you just found out on that it installed the driver it wants not what you want .

I know I'd never install it I try to prevent malware from being installed
