550w psu enough for gtx 980?

i want to upgrade my PC to a msi gtx 980 and i have a 550w power supply.
My PC specs:
i5 4460(stock cooler)
gtx 750ti
corsair vs550 550w psu.
so will my power supply be able to power the msi gtx 980 gaming 4g?
i will not be doing any overclocking.
I am scared my power supply will burn the card.

yes, its enough power for a 980, but its very high quality, and generally, the price to performance of the 980 is crap. I really recommend getting a 970 and overclock the snot out of it.

I wouldn't upgrade to a 980 on a corsair VS 550w... i'd be skeptical about upgrading to a 970 even... The rest of your parts might be okay for a 970 upgrade though.

so he can get a new PSU and a 970 for less then 400 dollars...
