Question 550w psu for 3070?

Say rtx3070 needs 220w from nvidia website

If i put it in 65w ryzen system , it should still have a lot of headroom left?

Btw Its a decent corsair tx550m 80gold

Do you have visions of changing to a video card that draws considerably more power?

What else is connected? Hard drives and fans and RAM sticks don't draw much..maybe under 50 watts total.

It was new using for 4 yrs
1HDD, 1 nvme, 1 wireless lan, cpu fan only
Or may be 3 more 12cm fans in future

So these all together like under 400w?

I'd guess the specific items you just listed total 40 to 60 watts?

But I have absolutely no idea if that 220 watts figure you got from Nvidia is accurate during actual use. Or laughable.

Nor do I know how much a "65w ryzen" processor can draw under certain conditions.

Could well be 400 watts is the most it could possibly draw, but someone will always tell you about "headroom" and "in case you ever upgrade" and "err on the side of caution" and "it's aging" and so you end up with an 850 watt PSU.

The 3000 series cards can have high power spikes that may not be properly handled by your psu.
If you already own the 550w unit, you could try it.
But, be prepared to invest in a much stronger quality unit for the long term.

You can try. If this were a junk 550W, I'd give a hard no on that, but the worst that would happen here is a shutdown; this is a very good 550W PSU. It ought not hurt anything to try.

Undervolt what? CPU or gpu?

Not likely. The issue is transient spikes.
If you own the TX550M, give it a try.
Be prepared to change if you have issues.
