550W Ultra PSU for 560 TI

Would I be able to run a 560 TI off of a 550W PSU?

My system is a C2D E7500 2.93 ghz, 3 GB Ram, 2 HDD (1 SATA, 1 IDE), and 6 USB, and 1 SATA DVD burner.

You will have a problem of your CPU trying to keep up with your GPU. Some people call it bottle necking. A good PSU brand of 500w or bigger will run the 560ti. On that part of your question.

So if you were to up grade from a 2 core CPU to a 4 core then you would be able to run the 560ti. With some of the brands with the PSU should be Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, of XFX.

There are a few more good brands besides the ones I just stated. So if you could tell me what the brand is of your PSU then we can put to rest that you need a new PSU. If your brand is Ultra.

In a month or two I plan to upgrade to a new mobo w/ a i5 2500 CPU and 8gb DDR3 1600.

I currently have the Ultra LSP ult-h550w PSU.

I haven't found that PSU but I will and that is good to hear about the i5 2500 and yes you will not have any problems at all. Just have to find about your PSU. But as it stand you are good to go with the new set up.

DM186 is right, upgrade your CPU. i got a 560 and im stuck with a 555 x2 phenom and its bottlenecking my card. i can barely max out anything. its BS.

I have a few more days to return a few items to best buy that I paid for with gift cards and reward certificates so I wanted to put those towards getting the new video card. Or else if it was money out of my pocket, I would of been working on getting the CPU and Mobo setup first. I will be bottlenecking the CPU for a month or so, but the new setup will fix that.

If you are going to use it has more than enough power to run your new CPU and GPU. If it is a heavy PSU then it should be alright. But if it is lite weight then take it back. I am still looking for some reviews on it. But so far it looks ok.

So if you are into gaming you need a PSU that will go past 90% with one card and 95% with two cards. Here is the link I found.

EDIT: Ok well my bad I did not see your post but if you have had it for a year maybe it is time to upgrade when you up grade your other two items

Yeah it will last at least another year but you have the facts and you know what to look fore when you revisit this in the fucture. Yeah it it is heavy then some part of it very good.

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to keep costs down a bit as the 560 TI I'm looking at is in the $250-$300 range.

I've been a console gamer for years and have been feeling burned out by consoles so want to do some PC gaming too. Probably 50/50 between the two. Steam looks to have some awesome deals every few weeks so it's adding to me going towards the PC route.

Newegg right now has an ECS and a Galaxy GTX 570 for $259 and an EVGA GTX 570 for $269. Much better choices than paying the same price for a GTX 560 Ti.

Now for the bad news. That Ultra power supply is junk and I would barely trust it with a 560 Ti and I would not trust it at all with a 570. If I was you I would replace it before you upgrade graphics cards. There are some very good power supplies on sale right now for really good prices.

The brands I recommend are Corsair, Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Enermax, Silverstone, OCZ and Antec. These 3 are especially good values right now and any of the 3 are sufficient for a GTX 570.

He is right on all the prices are falling. I know that the 560 Ti is under $200.00 dollars on new egg. So maybe you could get that one and still be able to get a PSU. Just food for thought.
