I had just recently purchased a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, and I'm getting higher idle number than my STOCK COOLER. I did install arctic silver 5's thermal paste. Do I have to wait until the paste thins from heat? Anyone have this experience? I'm on base clock 3.5 GHZ on an i5 4690k.

I would think that maybe you don't have it installed quite right. If there is some mechanical problem keeping it from making full flat contact with sufficient pressure between heat sink and CPU heat spreader, that can cause high temps.

Also, incorrect TIM application can cause high temps. Did you have any problems getting the cooler to install? The 212 EVO can be a bit tricky to get just right sometimes.

Maybe a little bit if shifting, just a tiny bit, not that much to actually do anything. I did happen to notice when I've tightened it down all the way the standoff's move as I turn it.

I'm going to guess that you may have used to much thermal compound. Remove your cooler and clean it, leave your cpu in the socket. , You can use a credit card or business card to scrape the bulk of it off then cotton balls or a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol to clean it. Keep cleaning until your cloth/balls stop getting dark. Repeat the process for your processor with it still in the socket. You only need a line about the width of a piece of spaghetti up the center of your processor. You don't need to spread it and you don't need more. Also make sure you installed it right, watch this video.

I used the same exact technique as he did and used the same TIM. But I'll make sure.

What he didn't show in his video that he should have was the backplate installation. You really should remove your motherboard to install this cooler. Make sure you the backplate oriented right and that you use a cross pattern when tightening on the retention bolts.

If the standoffs (posts) turned when you tightened the bolts, you probably installed it wrong. The posts that pass thru the MB into the backplate are keyed. Flattened on one side. The backplate's holes/slots are the same. Once in place and locked with the nuts tightly, the posts cannot turn.

I waited a bit and then restarted my pc and now I get around 40 to 41 on idle and on load I get 50 degrees Celsius average while on 4.2 ghz. This is also the temps during bf4. Is it ok temps now? It is a lot less than my stock cooler did.

With that 4.2 overclock it isn't bad, especially the load temps. The base clock idle temps kind of have me scratching my head though. Did you make sure your fan is pulling air through the cooler from the front of the case towards the rear fan?

I've been noticing that the temps are going down, now my idle is 35 degrees Celsius. I installed another fan onto it, which helped a lot. All I had to do was wait, I do not know exactly why. My Logic is that the paste maybe thinned out enough to transfer heat? But I did not have to take it off again, I just gave it time. Is my idle OK now?
