[SOLVED] 5600x VS 5900x for gaming

I raised a query recently regarding a new rig I'm building, and I was going for the 5900x. The rig is primarily going to be for gaming and that's really the most it would be pushed limits wise, I primarily play RTS games like Total War, and Paradox games such as Europa Universalis IV, Stellaris etc etc.

I've seen some videos suggesting that the 5600x is the "better" option for gaming when compared with the 5900x, is this the case? Is the difference in performance between a 5600x and a 5900x going to be noticeable in terms of playing games?

I figure if the answer is that for gaming, 5600x is "the option" then I may as well just go for that instead and save myself some money


Note: I will be pairing the CPU with an RTX 3090 if that makes any difference at all.

Edit: I'm also thinking about for the purpose of future proofing as well, I want this CPU to last a long while and keep up with shifts, if the 5900x is the one to go based on that, then I will search for that.

I would recommend getting the 5900x because it wouldn't hold back your 3090, which is an absolute beast of a card. although if you really want my two cents if, you haven't gotten the 3090, and you have the ability to, get the 3080 because the 3090 is a very expensive card that isn't going to push the boundaries of any rts game. but seeing how the 3090 is easier to find than a 3080 i understand your decision. but as I said, I would not settle on the CPU, and if you have the money for it, I would go for the 5900x.

If at 1440P or 1080, the extra 100-200 MHz of the 5800X or 5900X, respectively, serves to boost FPS by...<drum-roll> perhaps 1 fps or so.

I'm not playing at that quality currently however I will eventually upgrade to that quality.

For now, what I'm looking to get is 1440p @ a stable 144Hz - But I'm also likewise looking to future proof for the 4k end, and also just to make sure that I've got a rig that will last me a long while.

I do play the occasional game (when they release) and ideally I'd love to play those at maxed out graphics on a stable framerate (Namely 1440p @ 144Hz for now) - Eventually I'd move up to 4k where I'd look to (hopefully) do the same thing.

The 5900X seems to be about as elusive as the 3080 irritatingly, so I figured I'd just go for the 3090 as it would offer me decent future-proofing as well.

I've ordered the 3090 but I'm not at a point where I can't back out of said order. If the difference is really that slumped even on something like RDR2 for example, I'd consider cancelling the order entirely. Would you say that this is likely to be the case?

I should preface, and say that I'm in absolutely no rush to upgrade. I'm happy to be patient, so if a 3080 truly is the better option (logically), I'm more than happy to go for it.
