560gtx SLI vs 560gtx Ti SLI

Hey guys, deciding which graphics card option will be best, mainly for running Battlefield 3 on max/ultra settings (1920 x 1200 res) with a minimum of 55-60 fps.

Run SLI: MSI GTX 560 (Non Ti) Twin Frozr II Overclock 2 x $210 = $420
or
Run SLI: MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II Overclocked 2 x $260 = $520

My main question is their a $100 difference in performance between the non Ti 560gtx's and Ti 560gtx's.

The 560 Ti is the obvious choice. At 900 Mhz (outta the box) in SLI it scores 862 fps in Guru3D's gaming test suite versus 616 fps for the 580....that's a 40% difference.

The GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II runs at 880 Mhz outta the box for $225 (after MIR)

Other options would include the 900Mhz versions from Gigabyte ($205), Asus ($230) and EVGA ($250). When I built my 1st box with two of em, the Asus 900 MHz cards were the same price as the reference cards so I went that way ...... Since then 7 outta 8 went to 1000 MHz went to w/ 0 voltage adjustment; the last needed just one notch so I'd be sticking w/ em.

if you have $500 to spend on video cards get a gtx580. Doing anything else ( like sli-ing 2 lesser cards ) is like beating yourself off...... useless. The benchmark numbers might give the appearance of having similar performance, but that's all it is, an illusion.

2x560ti's is much faster than a GTX580, and if you shop around you can get the two 560ti's cheaper than one GTX580. Faster and cheaper!

Yeah i've also researched this too, and by the time kelper cards (supposedly 3-4 times faster) arrive and/or 2 series of graphics cards have passed i think picking up another 580gtx will be pointless, so ill go with sli 560's.

I'm sure you are gonna love it , I made the same choice and I'm very happy with them without paying a fortune.
At our res going 2xGTX580 would be a waste of money...and cheers another aussie here

Get the 560ti's, see my configuration, I love my setup. I wish now I would have went for the 2gig version for a little future proofing with bigger textures, but all in all, really happy with it.

Care to explain? According to articles I have read microstuttering is a problem on high settings on lower end dual card set ups.

2gb 560ti? Didn't know they existed but what is the purpose of the 2gb? I heard it is only really usefull on multi monitor set ups.

Yes, they have them.
Without sounding too general, when you pop a couple of cards into SLI or Crossfire, you amp up the processing power of what the cards independently could do considerably. 1gig of memory per card starts to become somewhat (somewhat) of an issue as you crank up detail levels and things like AA and AF, especially with some of the newer games and larger textures. Its not a huge thing right now with a single monitor, but, my 2 cents is that if you are going to layout the money for a decent setup and run SLI or Crossfire with mid to high end cards, you might as well make sure you have plenty of memory on board.
Like I said, I am very happy with my setup now, and I have not noticed any micro stuttering with my 560ti's. But if I had to do it again, I would have went with the 2gb versions.
