Hey peeps

So this post is about a dilemma im having about video cards.
I currently own a EVGA GTX 560 Ti 2GB

Q1 : I know that the upcoming GTX 680 will last me longer, if I buy it next year, BUT will any these an SLI config help me get better FPS rates? Is SLI performance that good?
Im seeing GTX 400 series video cards in SLI, destroying my single GTX 560 Ti. Im very disappointed. What can I do to outperform the upcoming GTX 600 viceo cards?? Will a 560 SLI be enough?

Q2 : What would be the best choice for me? Which would give me the highest FPS rates? And which will be the most wise choice.

1. EVGA GTX 560 Ti 2GB SLI
2. Radeon HD 6950 2GB CF

I have enough power to run SLI and my res. is 1920x1080 on a 24 inch monitor :)

GTX560Ti in SLI and HD6950 in Crossfire both perform better than the GTX580! Nobody nows the performance of the next generation so it is speculation to say where the stand against that!
Choosing between option 1 or 2 is based on what games you play they are similar in performance with the edge towards the HD6950!

Well I guess it's up to you and your budget what you want to do . you can get another GTX 560Ti 2gb and have the two in sli or if you want the 6950 you will have to get two to do crossfire and you won't be able to use the 560. What would be the best and the less expensive option for you right now would be to get another 560 and run them in SLI. Then you can wait for the 700 series to upgrade.

In most cases two cards are going to outperform one card.

@ rolli59
Thanks a lot.
I understand, that the future cards are really a mystery. But can we not see a pattern in the cards? The 285 cards beat the 460s. And the 480 cards beat the 560s. Wouldn't a 680 beat SLI 560s AND be better for the future?
But that is a blunt question lool

The core clock on your card right now at stock is 822 mhz right? With the Evga precision or MSI's afterburner you can overclock your card to somewhere between 900 mhz and 950 mhz. As with any overclock there is no accurate mhz that every card can achieve there are a lot of different variables involved , so you have to see where your card comes in at , that's why I said a range for your overclock.

If you already own a GTX 560 Ti and are looking for more performance then get another one and forget the GTX 600 series.

2X GTX 560 Ti's will be able to handle any games you throw at it, especially at your resolution. It won't even matter if the GTX 680 performs just as well or better than 2X GTX 560 Ti's because those two cards will be able to rake in 60 frames in every game.

Yea I've heard. But will this OC outperform a 6950 at its reference core clock of 800 Mhz?

GTX285 high end of its generation, so was 480 and is 580.
2 x 560 will beat a 480 if you add the Ti moniker then it will beat the GTX580 and might even beat the GTX680 when released! If you want to play with the best then you will at minimum have to upgrade the GPU every other generation or at least with in 2 years preferably every year!

Greaat! Thanks a lot! just what I was looking for.
SO in higher FPS terms, 560 SLI > 680?

Whoa whoa, I didn't say that. What I meant was that 2 GTX 560 Ti's will be able to max pretty much anything you throw at it. For example, lets say a GTX 680 can achieve 180 frames in Battlefield Bad Company 2 and 2 GTX 560 Ti's can achieve 130 frames in the same game. It won't really matter to you if the GTX 680 performs better because your two cards will be good enough, hitting the 60 frames per second goal.

Logic is backwards - if 285>460, and 480>560 then 580>660 (not 680>560). Also, if SLI 400 series will beat your 560, then SLI 500 series should beat the 660.

Just sayin...

u can unlock 6950s to 6970s
i.e. your 6950s will work like a 6970s
that can seriously outperform a 580 and roughly 590 and 6990.
also in crossfire u will have 2 gb ram (please correct if i am wrong).
thats enough to handle any game with 2560x1600 with full aa.(but yr reso is 1080p)
u dont need anything more for 2-3 years if u can sacrifice aa(not post).

You can't always unlock 6950s - all of the early ones unlocked because it was faster for board makers to just take the 6970s and disable some cores to fill the more attractive price points, but they've now been actually producing chips with fewer shaders. Also, some cards just won't do the bios update that's required. It's the same mixed bag as unlocking extra cores on Phenom/Athlon x3s, sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. But even worse odds at this point.

And in crossfire you would have 2GB between the cards - but that's on the same as 2GB on one card when it comes to texture loading. You can't load the large textures between the cards in that manner.

not sure about that. if i'm not mistaken the second batch of Gigabyte's GTX560 Ti SOC only have 950mhz on the core. maybe they really did drop the core frequency since it might be quite hard to guarantee every card with 1Ghz will operate normally

I think they did drop it. Because many people, and i mean MANY people had problems with the 1gig.
I've read about some ppl using MSI afterburner to downclock it to 950 Mhz and then having no problems at all. All the same, will the 950Mhz make a big difference in FPS when compared to 1Ghz?
