[SOLVED] 5700 worth the $ ?

So I’m finally building a new rig, it’s been 10 years now I got out of my old one. Can’t decide on the GPU. I’m not sure if I want to spend the extra $100 to get a rx 5700 over a 1660 super. Pros for the 1660s, price and low power but with a rx 5700 I would get more value out of my cpu and higher res.

ryzen 5 3600, msi B450 pro vdh max, 7377 Samsung b-die, are all on the way. Not going to OC the cpu, or ram. If I get a 1660s I’m going to OC the GPU and if I get a rx 5700 I will most likely under clock to lower power draw and temps. I like low power cause it means cooler and quieter.

If I get a 5700 I might have to budget on the monitor. So a good quality 1080p monitor with a 1660s or a budget 1440 monitor with a rx 5700? My budget is around 400-500 for monitor and GPU. I don’t stream and I’m not a content creator. I’m looking to get the most bang for my buck, max game settings with minimum 60 FPS.

Technically you have to overclock the ram, to reach its rated speed. The 5700 will outlast a 1660 super, with regards to relevance in future titles.

Thanks for the input. I guess what I meant with the ram is I don’t plan to push it past it’s rated speed. I like the idea of the GPU staying relevant longer. I’m trying to find a way to explain to my wife why a $360 GPU is the logical choice. She’s a gamer too but only plays the sims so it’s a bit over kill for her.

Pay a little more now, instead of paying even more later. Always buying just enough, for now, just causes you to spend more overall.
