5770 backplate question.

i have an old 5770 i want to put into a pc i have. but with the huge backplate ( see link) it doesn't fit. is this backplate important? or can i just remove it?

yeah you can remove it. Some cases/rackmounts have card supports where that extra bit attaches to. It should not have any other function than that AFAIK...
