Alright Tomlins, I'm back with another question.

So far I've gotten everything for my build except for the case and gpu.

Right now I have my eyes set on the Asus gtx580 Matrix. It's running at about 530 bucks

A lot of my co workers at best buy (one of them even showed me the numbers) said I should go with 460 sli. (i believe there were evga ar's, not sure if it's a reference card).

I'm looking to be able to play bf3 at max settings and maybe a few other games. I also do engineering work, video stuff, etc.

Also, the 460s will run a total of $340 bucks vs the 580.

I know futureproofing is impossible but I also have a wireless pci adapter going in there and if I sli I'm not sure i'll be able to hook up the wireless pci.

The mobo I've got is the ASUS Maximus Extreme-Z (z68)

Thanks guys!

your friends at work and your buddy at Best-Buy are F.O.S. Go for the single higher end card. It's completely different architecture and will give better performance.......... forget the " but it gets higher frame rates " BS. Higher frame-rates don't tell the entire story.

THANK YOU! you speak exactly like my friend does who everybody rages at because he gets really expensive stuff but in the end they complain cuz they lag and *** and he doesn't.

THanks again!

Why would you want to get a card that takes up 3 slots , it severly restricts any upgrade you want to do (if you get two thats 6 slots). Why not get this ;EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

It gives you a GTX 580 and makes future sli upgrade possible and it's $484.99 with a $20 rebate that will save you about $65. The 580 is a beast of a card and you will be able to play BF3 at high resolutions and fps. It will also be good for your work and when you future sli two 580's is outstanding.

well, with the asus 580, it's pretty much rated really well and the cooling is spectacular. I'm running an eATX board and a full case. I do have a wifi pci adapter but that should be no problem, even if i decide to sli. I have a 1000w psu so power wise i should be a-okay. thanks guys, i've placed the order and went ahead with the asus gtx 580!
