I read that since you currently do not need any more than 8 CPU cores for high-end gaming, does this mean that the Ryzen 5800X is one of the best gaming chips for the money?

Also, don't the 5800X, 5900X, and 5950X all have similar per-core performance?

Solution
5800X is more than plenty for games. I'd even say go for the 5600X unless you've got money to burn, it's not worth spending the extra money for the tiny bump you get from choosing the 5800X unless, again, you've got too much money you don't know what to do with. Of course, the higher you go, the better the performance, but there's always only a couple of FPS in between all games.

For 1080p gaming the 5900x is only a handful of frames faster than the 5600x. At higher resolutions it evens out.

Considering the lunacy of chip prices lately I'd suggest the 5600x as well.

I'd say the 5600x is more than enough, the 5800x is only better because it has 2 more cores (single-core speed is not noticeable)

Only games that take advantage of those 2 extra cores would be able to fully utilize the 5800x over the 5600x.

I'd say 5600x in most cases but if you have extra and want to future-proof the 5800x is really good.

(The only AAA game I know that uses 8 cores instead of 6 is Cyberpunk, that means in most games the 5800x will preform nearly identically to the 5600x)
