EDIT: I saw another post on here that had this same issue. They solved it with 'newer ddr4 ram'. How exactly can I know what RAM is newer? I updated the BIOS so can I try RAM that isn't on the QVL list?

Hi,

I've had this CPU since December 2022. Everything worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago. I was receiving BSODs and the stop code was 'ACPI BIOS ERROR'. I tried updating my BIOS and a couple of other things after researching that error code. While troubleshooting, it got to the point where it sometimes wouldn't post. When it did post, I would go to bios and while I'm making changes it restarts again.

I determined that I might need a new motherboard, as the one I had was pretty old. So I bought a ASUS Prime B550 Plus with RAM that was on the QVL list. With that I couldn't get any post at all so I installed an older CPU (1600X) and it booted so I updated the BIOS to the most recent version. I put the 5800x back in, and still no post. I unplugged everything and reseated everything to no avail.

I decided to search 'best motherboard for 5800x3d'. I came up with an ASrock B550M Steel Legend. I again ordered new RAM. I began with the 5800x3d. Still no post, so I put in a 3700x and it did boot. I updated the BIOS to the most recent version, and reinstalled the 5800x3d. No post again.

The only thing I can think now is that the 5800x3d is bad. My current specs are below. Does anybody else have any ideas on this? Something else I could try? I did try reseting CMOS on all motherboards also.

ASrock B550M Steel Legend
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600 (PC4-28800) C18
EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 ULTRA GAMING
Corsair 1200HX 1200w PSU

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

After verifying that the BIOS was successfully updated to the latest, did you clear the CMOS? What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard? You should clear the CMOS by disconnecting from the wall and display, then remove the CMOS battery for at least 15 mins, then press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Replace the battery and then power up the platform.

Did you reinstall your OS after the motherboard swap?

Hi luftfij,

Thanks for the welcome!

I did not clear the CMOS after. I'm doing that now just as you described. I did not reinstall the OS. It did boot with my older 3700x and 1600x to Windows with no problems though. Just not the 5800x3d.

I tried resetting the CMOS like you said. Still no post. I forgot to say a couple things. I updated the BIOS to 3.20. Also, on the Asus board, only the dram qled was on. On the ASrock, the one I have currently, both the dram and CPU qleds are on.
