IMO if you are still on 2xxx or 3xxx with a half decent motherboard this is no deal to miss. It will surely need a robust cooling solution.

Edit- sage advice in post #2. This is an AM4 part and will want to double check your motherboard compatibility for a supporting BIOS update. In addition, you may need to consider your VRM/power delivery on board and air flow over them. Thank you to @COLGeek for that important factor to consider.

Very true. It is a great deal and especially in the consideration that you can often find motherboards for this that won't break the bank. 11th gen Intel, for instance, are super hard to find new or used for anything decent and at a good price. This would be an excellent pairing for a 7xxx graphics solution, probably even 6xxx.

I have absolutely zero current use case for this and yet I have hovered over the buy it now a half dozen times already.

"Hello my name is punkncat and I am a hardwareaholic"
You have zero use for this? I mean, it's just a mid-range 8-core CPU. Please tell me you're saying that because you already have something equivalent. But if you say that because you think it's an overkill for you, then I can safely say that you will definitely have a use for it, if only by speeding up pretty much everything you do on your computer.

Zero use for it along the lines of:

have an 11900K
have a 5900XT
have a 3600
an extra 5600 in its box practically new (might go in the mobo w/ 3600)

I already have a system connected to every TV in the house because I have a problem with hardware....I cannot think of anything even remotely logical to try and convince the wif.......wait, you know what? The TV in the garage doesn't have a PC connected to it yet...

THANKS (lol)

OK oufff! I was scared you were like "my Ryzen 1600x is still doing great so I don't need that" hahaha!

I'm in a similar situation by the way: I have a 9800XD3 in my main gaming rigs, a 5900X in my closet that is just collecting dust, a 5600G in my Linux machine, and my old 3700X is in my wife's desktop.

I don't know exactly what it is about my makeup that causes me to do this. When I was into cycling, I had three bikes and a recumbent trike JUST of my own. (I still have two)

I played paintball for decades and at one point had nearly 30 paintball markers. It started off like I needed one for me and a backup, one for each of the kids, the wife, oh now they need backups, oh, that's neat I need that and whammy an entire closet of the house was fitted with pegboard, shelving, and padded bags for the really collectible stuff.

Now I am doing the same things with PC hardware.

It is a sickness. I need to pick up bird watching or something but then it would turn to optics and cameras. UGH!

😉

The 5800XT is about 3-4% faster AND less expensive. I may not be following how the 5700X is a better deal.

I didn't even notice it before, but this also includes the Wraith Prism cooler.

it draws less power its 65w tdp max power is roughly 88w/105 spikes vs max power of 5800xt 142w
similar performance.

easier to cool on stock cooler from a previous machine or any 4 heatpipe cooler will work.
hell you can pick up the thermalright burst 6 heatpipe cooler for like 20 usd

https://www.amazon.com/Thermalright...ermalright,aps,156&sr=1-35&xpid=fJtTQjXB-mDJo

even the prism cooler will struggle with a 5800x would not fancy its chances on a 5800xt over long periods.

while the 5700x doesnt come with a cooler its a good upgrade especially if your pc doesn't have the best airflow. still bursts up to 4.6 .

in short its voltage has been pushed as high as it can on these chips which you wont see huge gains on these in gaming.

could not find much on 5800xt
but did find some stuff on 5800x

( probly because it was like 0.1ghz higher
